As a small company we didn’t realize how important a public statement was in regards to the current political strife. After reading public statements from other small gaming companies, we feel something should be said.
Our game is set in the 1920s, and we usually avoid most racial tensions of the era.
Our artist provided us with archetypes that are, unfortunately, exclusively white because we did not specify race in our request and we still live in a world where many people unintentionally, perhaps, view white as the default. He delivered what he thought we wanted, we felt it was more important to keep to the publishing deadline than change what we received. Future publications will not share in that mistake.
We provide a game in which the impact of skin color is secondary to the impact of ones actions as this is the world we want to live in. We do also recognize the racial attitudes of the historical setting we game in, and do want to acknowledge it as tactfully and tastefully as possible when it is integral to the adventure.
We as a company and as individuals stand with the black Americans and other POC and their allies.
We wanted to showcase some of the African American heroes of our game time in honor of the BLM movement.
Thenodrin Games is a small publishing company run by five long-time game friends. The group currently only publishes Fellowship of the White Star: Beacon in the Dark. Fellowship of the White Star is an investigative-heavy role-playing game where you portray a member of a global secret society devoted to eradicating evil and protecting the innocent from the supernatural threats that lurk in the shadows, undetected by the common person. The first era of the setting, Legacy of the Rose, was published by Thenodrin Presents and was set historically in the years 1905-1914 using D20 rules. We have licensed the setting from them, and are producing the second era, Beacon in the Dark with a new ruleset. Beacon in the Dark will begin in 1919 and go for 5 or 10 years to be decided based on various factors. For the first era, we used the D20 rules to focus on getting the setting and story right. Now that we have a rich history on which to build, we have developed a rule system to better complement that setting.
Fellowship of the White Star: Beacon in the Dark
The Fellowship of the White Star campaign is set in semi-historic, post-Great War (WWI) earth, 1919-1929, with a supernatural atmosphere that is hidden from the public common consciousness. In this version of earth, magic exists as does supernatural and legendary creatures. You will create heroes to investigate suspicious events and battle evil supernatural beings and their malevolent plots. This is our core rules and setting book containing everything needed to create a character, play, and run the game.
